Counseling Philosophy
The philosophy of St. Paul’s is to grow and develop mature, well-balanced young men. This balance includes building upon academic skills, engaging in emotional and personal growth, becoming aware of their own personal spirituality, and encouraging mastery of age-appropriate developmental concepts related to character and moral development. We believe that these four pillars, similar to the legs on a table, provide the balance necessary to effectively handle life as a mature, responsible adult.
The counseling program exists to assist students with their individual behavioral-emotional issues while simultaneously utilizing the St. Paul’s environment to encourage maturity, character, and moral development. Counseling and mentoring opportunities occur in the counselor’s office, in the classroom, in the dorms, and whenever and wherever teachable life moments occur.
The goals of counseling are individualized to each student and are dependent upon the student’s needs and growth areas. At the same time, counselors provide parent support, case management, and coaching to improve the parent-child relationship.
