Teen Drug Treatment & Recovery Boarding Schools

After a teen has completed treatment for substance abuse, the family is left with the difficult decision of whether or not to bring their teenager home.  It is a difficult and daunting task to try to figure out how to provide teenagers with the appropriate level of supervision and support, while eliminating negative influences like peer pressure, after your son or daughter has completed their treatment.  While some teens may be ready to transition home with a complete transition plan that includes 12 step meetings and outpatient counseling or outpatient therapy, other teens my need a more structured and more supervised setting like a boarding school.  After all, recovery is an ongoing process, and newly sober teenagers are at risk for relapse, especially when they are reintroduced to the environment where their substance use and substance abuse was happening.

Not all boarding schools are built the same, and there are a wide variety of boarding schools in existence:  traditional boarding schools, therapeutic boarding schools, emotional growth boarding schools, single gender boarding schools like all boys boarding schools, alternative boarding schools, residential treatment schools, Christian boarding schools, transition boarding schools, and specialty boarding schools.  Families can feel hopeless when trying to choose the right type of boarding school for their son or daughter after drug or alcohol treatment, at a wilderness program or residential treatment center, has been completed.

However, there are boarding schools out there that specialize in teenage recovery.  Some of these boarding schools call themselves therapeutic boarding schools, others emotional growth boarding schools.  While they go by many different names, there is help out there for teenagers in need of a boarding school that provides the support and services necessary for recovery.

A lot of parents worry that their teenager will feel abandoned or resentful because the family has decided that their teenager is not ready to be reintroduced to the home environment.  But, as your teenager comes to realize the benefits that they are enjoying at their boarding school, they will come to appreciate your decision and the sacrifice that you have made to provide your teenager with their best chance at recovery and ongoing success.  We often hear from teenagers who go back to their families and thank them for making this tough decision.  The success that these teenagers realize by living a healthy and sober lifestyle can be attributed to the structure that these boarding schools have to offer by emphasizing:  personal responsibility, character education, behavior modification, life skills, study skills, individual counseling, individual therapy, group counseling, group therapy, daily 12-step meetings, respect, and other solutions to bring out your teenager’s potential and give him or her a new beginning.  After enrolling your teenager in a boarding school, families can often see remarkable changes in their teenager’s academics, attitude, and overall performance.  Your teenager can return home with a fresh start, and a new outlook on life.
