Activities

Arizona has many wonderful attractions that are available for students to take advantage of, and we look to keep the boys busy and enjoying many of these wonderful places. Local sporting events, theatres, and trips throughout the state are just some of the off-campus activities the students can enjoy once they earn citizenship.  Examples include:

  • Professional and college sports - the Phoenix Suns - basketball, the Arizona Diamondbacks - baseball, the Arizona Cardinals - football, the Phoenix Coyotes - hockey, the Arizona Sting - professional lacrosse, and Arizona State University athletics.
  • Theater performances at the Grady Gammage Auditorium located on the ASU campus or the Herberger Theatre in downtown Phoenix.
  • Various activities at amusement parks such as Castles N Coasters and Fiddlesticks.
  • Out-of-town trips such as snow skiing at Arizona Snow Bowl, hiking at Kartchner Caverns, trips to the Grand Canyon, or hikes and picnics through Tonto National Forest.
  • Activities such as indoor rock climbing, horseback riding, bowling, or movies at the local movie theaters.
  • Co-ed activities with a local girl's school include a formal prom in May, ice skating, bowling, picnics, and other activities.
  • Intramural athletics are available for the students not interested in participation on the interscholastic level and include weightlifting, soccer, basketball, and ultimate Frisbee.

Character Education

St. Paul’s has a commitment to teaching young men about their responsibility to their community. Community service is strongly emphasized at the Academy; it is an integral part of the character development component and a requirement for advancement in the degree system. Students serve those in need by working with the elderly, with children, with the homeless, and with those less fortunate. Students often coordinate citywide service projects prior to graduation. Many students receive citizenship awards and have been recognized by the city, including a recent graduate who was the recipient of a $32,000 college scholarship based on community service and character.

Clubs

Students have the opportunity to join clubs based on their areas of interest and their demonstrated level of responsibility. Clubs include:  art, bowling, chess, National Honor Society, steel drum band, weight lifting, yearbook, running, hiking, guitar, cooking and yoga.
